Title Contest!

Okay, so I'm a bad, bad blogger - I did promise you a contest so here it is. Actually, it's more of a giving-you-incentive-to-help-me-out-contest. I don't know by what stroke of genius I managed to come up with a title I loved with Fashionably Late, but I'm not feeling the title magic this time around. Here's what I've come up with, perhaps you can give me the top three eye-catching titles from the below list, and you can enter a draw to win..... wait for it.... an art print direct from Cuba!!! I've just come back from an art scouting trip there (hence the no blogging), so I can make good on this. Please don't forget to include your name (or some kind of identifier) if you're posting anonymously.

Here's your prize:

It's a flat watercolour so I promise to be prompt in sending it to you (I learned my lesson with the coco taxi debacle). I don't have a ruler handy, but (and I included some trade paperbacks in the pic for your reference), it looks like a 6" x 8".

And the titles are:

Loose Ends
Cutting Loose
On the Loose
Loosely Translated
Losing It
Loose Girls
Coming Loose
The Loose Girls Club

***
Fashionably Unwed
Fashionably Deluded
Fashionably Jilted
Fashionably Jaded
Fashionably Unsettled

***
Lipstick Rebellion
Rebels in High Heels
Fashionistas Without a Cause

***

Adventures in Limboland
Accidentally Unwed
A Season in the Sun

***
I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but I will say that the book is a spin off of Fashionably Late, the tale of one of the characters who figures out that her relationship is well, not quite what it seemed, and runs off to somewhere HOT (not Cuba!) to figure out her life. Her behaviour is very un-good-girl-like considering her strict background, hence the "loose", and in this new life of hers, she meets two other girls who've made their own lives on their own terms, away from their families... Good luck!

Hey, Nadine,
Nice meeting you in Dallas! Okay, the three titles that jumped out at me are:
Loosely Translated
Accidentally Unwed
Fashionistas Without a Cause (this one actually made me laugh aloud :).
Looking forward to reading it regardless of what you call it!

hi nadine!
i looovvee "Fashionably Unwed". I think it's perfect for the story and also keeps a connection to the first novel. whatever you chose...i think keeping "Fashionably" and no other variation of it, is the best way to go.
but that's just unpublished old me :P. i'll be sure to profile ur book AND you when my mag finally publishes. :)

i was that close to writing you via your website, encouraging you to write a sequel. haha.

okay. the fashionista thing was only fitting because ali was obsessed with fashion. it came out everywhere. if that's not your focus, then i wouldn't use it.

if it's your trademark, then i'd choose Fashionistas Without a Cause. rebels in high heels also works for me. they have a rebel without a cause meets thelma and louise kind of fun. there's a fierceness to it.

i liked loose ends. there's complexity, sensitivity to it. does she tie up those loose ends or does she get lost in them?

Wow - lots to choose from! At least we're narrowing them down!

I like Fashionably Unwed the most. I like the whole theme idea. I like Loose Girls also, but maybe it would work better for another book you write after your triolgy is complete!

Thanks so much guys (and Misha - hi there! Thanks so much for your post!). If nothing I'm feeling a bit better about my choices now, but you all make excellent points, so still so hard to choose! I'm keeping the contest open one more day and hope a pattern emerges...

Here's what I like:

Loose Ends
Loosely Translated
Fashionably Unwed

Fashionably Unwed ties into FL, but I like the Translated aspect given the multi-culti aspect.

ypeThanks guys - I think we have a winner! A few actually:

Fashionably Unwed & Loosely Translated are the two most popular (and amongst my faves as well), and to those I'd add Loose Ends & Lipstick Rebellion. Now I can stop calling the wip "Untitled2" which will be nice.

And the winner of the lovely Cuban watercolor is.... MARYLIN BRANT!!! This was determined by a very scientific process of sticking names in a paper bag and asking my roomie to pick one (Shirine - you were excluded due to cinflict in interest concerns. We wouldn't want another teddy bear incident on our hands...)

Thanks for your feedback!

Really? I won?!! Whoo-hoo! I'm so excited--thank you, Nadine (and thanks to your roomie, too :). The Cuban watercolor looks beautiful. I promise to find it the perfect spot in our house...

I just finished Fashionably Late and loved it! haven't really enjoyed reading a book in a long time. My sister read it just before me and loved it as well. Arielle (Dara's sister) read it and then lent it to us. It's funny, cuz I did the accounting thing too and was a summer student at one of the Big 4 so I could totally relate. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do, and your book gave me a bit more inspiration to find out what it is that I want. Looking forward to you next book!

I know I'm too late for the contest, but I love the title "Loosely Translated" - it's by far my favorite!
